Featuring Ed Sbragia, Proprietor & Wine Maker
7 - 10 PM.
Menu details will be posted 1 week prior to dinner.

When Ed Sbragia was growing up, wine meant both livelihood
and quality of life to his family. Ed’s grandfather, an immigrant
from Tuscany, had naturally gravitated to the wineries flourishing
in California at the turn of the century.

Ed’s father acquired his own vineyards near Healdsburg, growing
zinfandel grapes for sale and home winemaking. “He made ex-
cellent wine,” says Ed, “and he taught me that making wine is a
very natural process – that good grapes and good techniques will
make good red wine.” In the Tuscan tradition, good red wine was
a part of every family dinner. The vineyards meant hard work for
young Ed – pruning, thinning, harvesting and crushing. Ed major-
ed in chemistry at the University of California at Davis, headed for
a career in science. But his family background made him the top
candidate for a job in a winery laboratory upon graduation. Quick-
ly realizing that the winemaker’s job was what he wanted, he
returned to California State University at Fresno for a master’s
degree in enology. After a year working at a Sonoma County
winery, he learned about an opening as winemaker Myron
Nightingale’s assistant at Beringer. “Myron was a great teacher.
He was the most intuitive winemaker I’ve ever known. He under-
stood that winemaking requires subjective input – a feeling, - just like painting or sculpture or any work to
which you dedicate yourself.” Ed is now a consultant for Beringer after 32 years as Winemaster.
“Beringer has been so gracious to me. They helped me start my family winery, Sbragia Family

Jada Vineyard and Winery produces Rhône and Bordeaux wines
from their estate vineyard on the West Side of Paso Robles, California.

The 90 acre hillside vineyard was first established in 1999, replacing
rolling hills of barley with a variety of Rhone and Bordeaux clones.

Today, the vineyard produces four clonal varieties of Cabernet
Sauvignon, 3 clones of Syrah, two clones of Mourvedre, Cabernet Franc,
Merlot, Grenache Noir, Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Rousanne, Tannat,
and Petit Verdot.

It became apparent after 8 years of maturity, that the site was unique
and capable of producing high-quality, premium wines that Jada is proud
to offer to their customers.

In May 2008, construction was completed on a state of the art, gravity
flow winery, converting an existing barn into a facility that provides
remarkable views of the winery, vines, and hillsides.

When Molly and Donn Chappellet moved to
Pritchard Hill in 1967, they had five children and
one on the way. As their vineyards have matured,
Molly and Donn’s family has grown, and today
includes nine grandchildren, who can often be found
playing in the vineyards as their parents did before them.

Recognized as one of the great family-owned and run Napa Valley wineries, the history of Chappellet reflects the passion and commitment of this pioneering family. Through four decades and three generations, the Chappellets have made Pritchard Hill their home, while also establishing it as one of the world’s most revered winegrowing sites. Today, the second generation of the family works alongside their parents to ensure that the winery and vineyards continue to thrive for generations to come.

Mr. Chappellet will showcase five Chappellet wines including the 2011 Chenin Blanc, 2011 Napa Chardonnay, 2010 Signature Cabernet Sauvignon, 2009 Pritchard Hill Cabernet Sauvignon, and their 2011 Petite Syrah.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Cyril Chappellet in Tampa at a luncheon at Capital Grille in February 2011,” says Mary Sarkisian, Proprietor. “We are truly honored that he will be coming to present his wines here at the Cellar this month.”
